چکیده

SYMMMS of alcoholic Peripheral neuropathy were first recognized by ' S Lettsom (1787) who described hypermsthesiae and paralysis, affecting the ` r legs more than the arms. He, and later Jackson (1822), delineated the late ^ ^y ^ G^ `^ stage of peripheral nerve affection. Much clinical observation since then ','^ .c 0 has shown that the neuropathy in alcoholics varies widely in seve rity. We S ^G ^ c aci have studied peripheral nerve conduction velocities in chronic alcoholics 1ha1 car ' with the aim of assessing the pattern and development of alcoholic 3 Y polyneuropathy.

A case report: Non-alcoholic Wernicke encephalopathy associated with polyneuropathy

We report a rare case of non-alcoholic Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) with polyneuropathy. A 24-year-old woman who had recently served a 4-month prison sentence and underwent a short period of dieting manifested slow response, weakness, language disorder and amnesia. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed typical lesions of WE. Examination of nerve conduction velocity revealed sensory-mo...

Axonal polyneuropathy after acute dimethylamine borane intoxication.

OBJECTIVE To study a patient with axonal polyneuropathy due to acute dimethylamine borane (DMAB) intoxication. PATIENT Confusion and drowsiness in the acute stage, followed by cognitive impairments and polyneuropathy, are reported in a chemical factory worker after acute exposure to DMAB. RESULTS Nerve conduction studies indicated axonal polyneuropathy, particularly in the motor nerves. Sur...

Modeling nerve conduction criteria for diagnosis of diabetic polyneuropathy.

INTRODUCTION In this study we aimed to determine which criteria are valid for nerve conduction (NC) diagnosis of typical diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSPN). METHODS Eight criteria were assessed from among diabetes databases, the Rochester Diabetic Neuropathy Study (RDNS, N = 456), and in healthy subjects (RDNS-HS, N = 330). RESULTS In the RDNS, the most frequent abnormal attributes...

Ratio of motor nerve conduction velocity to F-wave conduction velocity in diabetic neuropathy.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the usefulness of a new parameter, the ratio of motor nerve conduction velocity to F-wave conduction velocity (M/F ratio), for the differential diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Nerve conduction studies were conducted in 95 patients with diabetic neuropathy, 44 nondiabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy, and 24 normal control subjects....

Toxic polyneuropathy of shoe-industry workers. A study of 122 cases.

The toxic polyneuropathy observed in a group of shoe-industry workers in Italy was clinically characterised by a symmetrical prevalently distal motor deficit, with occasional marked weakness of pelvic girdle muscles, and frequently by only subjective sensory symptoms; non-specific disturbances usually preceded neurological signs. Subclinical cases of 'minimal' chronic neuropathy, characterised ...
